When a Team Believes: The Leadership Behind a World Championship

For years —perhaps decades— Venezuela waited for this moment.

A national team lifting the highest trophy in baseball.
A country united by a single emotion.
A long-awaited moment finally becoming reality:

World Champions.

But this victory goes far beyond sports.

It is a case study in leadership, performance, and mindset.

The defining truth

This championship was not an accident.
It was the result of believing… when others doubted.
Of enduring… when others gave up.
And of continuing… when the path was unclear.

This is not just a sports story.
It is a leadership principle.

Strategic leadership in action

Championships are not only won on the field.
They are won in decision-making.

The manager demonstrated a key capability:

  • Measuring
  • Calculating
  • Executing

In real time, under pressure.

This is what high-performance leadership looks like:

the ability to combine intuition with discipline
and emotion with strategic clarity.

From stars to multipliers

Former superstars like Cabrera and Santana played a different role.

They became coaches.
Mentors.
Multipliers of performance.

And in doing so, they achieved something even more powerful:

impacting outcomes through others.

This is the evolution of leadership:

From individual excellence → to collective impact.

The silent performers

Every winning organization has them:

  • The consistent executors
  • The reliable contributors
  • The ones who deliver under pressure

Without visibility. Without noise.

They are not always recognized…
but they are always essential.

Preparation as a competitive advantage

Nothing about this victory was improvised.

Behind every play, there was preparation:

  • Data
  • Training
  • Adjustment

High performance is never built on moments.
It is built on systems.

Playing for something bigger

This team was not just playing to win.

They were playing for meaning.

For identity.
For a country.
For generations.

And when purpose is present…
performance elevates.

Execution under pressure

At the end, everything comes down to execution.

And this team delivered.

At the right moment.
With precision.
With composure.

Final reflection

This championship is a reminder:

Extraordinary results are never random.

They are the outcome of:

  • Leadership
  • Discipline
  • Alignment
  • Purpose
  • And belief

From MOTITUD

When a team believes… it wins.
But when a nation believes… it transforms.

‘Performing at Your Best: Mindset Evolution’: Celebrating Show #50

"Success is waking up in the morning and bounding out of bed because there's something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that you're good at - something that's bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again."
-- Whit Hobbs

With this beautiful quote I received this morning from a dear friend, I wake up to what will be an amazing day (as most are and should be). Today we are celebrating an incredible day as my radio show Performing at Your Best: Mindset Evolution with Luis Vicente Garcia on VoiceAmerica Business is reaching its first big milestone: I will be LIVE at 6 pm EDT this afternoon to celebrate our show #50.

OSCAR Winning TEAM Formula

If you watched the 2016 Oscars®, it was another night to celebrate the underdog.
That night, Hollywood’s biggest and brightest took to the stage to accept their Bronze statuettes, a mark of the highest achievement anyone in the film industry can receive.
But as I watched cast of ‘Spotlight’ receive their award, another thought crossed my mind. As the director and producers of the film came onstage, they were not alone. They were joined by an entire line of actors and team members who shared warm hugs and tears of joy. They ‘buzzed’ with the excitement of what they were able to accomplish—not alone, but together.
Prior to that, Alejandro Iñarritú had just received his Oscar® for Best Director of the film ‘The Revenant’, second year in a row he has won such a prestigious award.
For me the night had so many wonderful take-aways. But one which stands out most is Team Work.
You don’t have to be an award winning director to apply Spotlight’s or have Alejandro Iñarritú’s teamwork model to achieve ground-breaking business success today.

You see, the casts of 'Spotlight' and ‘Birdman’ seemed to realize something other teams may fail to realize:

If you want to receive the highest honor in any industry,
you have to understand the Power of the Team.

No Oscar-winning movie would be complete without the best sound effects, music scores, direction, make-up, actors, scriptwriters, or special effects. Every detail has to be right to achieve the award-winning results we all want to see in our business.

Alejandro Iñarritú understood the Power of the Team and used that knowledge to build an award-winning cast and film. He knew how to organize a team that is creative, innovative, and achieves award-winning results.
Is your team ready for ‘Birdman’-worthy fame? Are you capitalizing on the teamwork power Alejandro used to gain the highest honor in his field?
Your company’s award might not come in a form of a statue, but it will come in the way of satisfied customers, excellent products and services, community involvement and improved branding for you and your company.
Are you ready to make your business and TEAM ‘Oscar-Ready’?
If so, I have the Oscar Formula you need for ultimate success.
You might have thought, “I already have a plan in place.” Or, “I’m not sure if I’m ready to try something new.”
The truth is, change is hard. Even scary. But I have some good news for you. All you have to do is take the first step. I will take care of the rest.
Here are 2 Oscar- Worthy Tips that are guaranteed to increase productivity and profitability in your business, regardless of the industry you’re in.
1.  EMPOWER your team members in a way that helps them grow.
Now, you might be thinking,
I’m already empowering my team members. But are you doing it in a way that motivates them to use their gifts and abilities to the max?
Are you empowering your time to perform at their utmost level of potential?
2.  DELIVER messages that are positive and motivating.
Are you speaking to your team members in a way that is both powerful and reassuring? Are you using the type of language in your everyday interactions that
inspires hard work and dedication?
Or are your words causing your employees to doubt or
second-guess their contributions?
The words we use matter. If you want to change the words you use to create powerful and profitable change in your company, you can start now.

Contact me today to create the type of award-winning success Alejandro Iñarritú created to win Oscar fame. You can reach me at coachluis@luisvicentegarcia.com or visit my web pageswww.luisvicentegarcia.com and www.coachluisvgarcia.com
And believe you can always do it,
if you set your mind to it!

Our Business is entering the second semester of 2015: Are we prepared?

As we enter into the second semester of the year 2015, we need to understand what our business is doing in today’s market, which activities such as having better products, higher quality services and satisfying our customer’s needs we are doing. Also, we need to understand how we are doing them and how we are using our resources. It means understanding the new market trends while getting closer to our goals. Yes, we all have goals right? For those of us who have goals, keep moving forward towards them; for those who don’t, start having your own goals, create them and make them part of your daily routine.

Understanding our own business basics is today of critical importance. Business has been defined as a particular organization which encompasses all activities in the economy (primary, secondary and tertiary or more commonly named mining and agriculture, manufacturing and services). This means we buy certain goods from our suppliers and convert them into the goods and services that we and our companies provide to our customers. It provides a place for us to be creative and innovative and working to reaching our goals; one of them is that sales will be more than expenditures resulting in a profit.

Any enterprise then is that organization which is involved in the trade of goods and services to our consumers. However, regardless of your type and size of business or the industry you work in, you need to understand the basic concepts of Performance and Productivity as they will make the difference in today’s business world. And in doing so, you need to identify and use the measurements; information and metrics that come from your daily operations. Reporting figures and metrics in the right way will allow you, the manager and business owner to take the best steps and take the right decisions for your company’s future.

So are you ready to take on the second half of the year? Here are a few questions you would need to ask yourself and your team about your company’s performance:
-          How is your company in terms of revenue and profit if you compare it to the first half of 2014?
-          How far advanced are you in reaching your 2015 goals?
-          What new skills and knowledge have you developed?
-          How many more people have you met and how many new clients do you have?
-          Are you already thinking of new products or services? Or are you working on improving your current ones?

These are some of the many questions you should start asking yourself and your team and start working on making the second half of 2015 your best ever!!!

Excellence in Entrepreneurship!

Have you ever wondered what makes an entrepreneur and their companies excellent? or for example, why do you always seem to use the same companies as examples as having the best products or services or management practices?

One feature that all these companies have is that they are always looking to innovate to meet the growing and changing needs of their customers; and behind them there is always an entrepreneur who has the will to make it possible. In other words, it is the entrepreneur who always strives for excellence.

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to give a lecture on strategies for growth to a small group of entrepreneurs. During the lecture I spoke about successful people, amazing companies developing new ideas and also, about transformational leaders. And always one refers to the most innovative companies. We talked about Disney and Disney Institute; on Amazon and its founder; I talked about Peter Diamandis and the X-Prize or the Zappos Culture. And we discussed about the characteristics of successful people (if you want to obtain my PDF on the Characteristics of Successful People write to Info@luisvicentegarcia.com ).

Often when talking about great products we refer to Apple or Sony. When we speak of excellent services they have emerged as companies like Zappos or Yahoo in the digital age that have stood out far above the others for the service they give. And there is a long list of companies including The Walt Disney Company, IBM, BMW, The Coca-Cola Company, TOMS and many others that are always in our minds when we think if excellent service. Each of us has our favorites, from movie theaters to restaurants or places we think when going on vacation. And, what characterizes them all? Why, that when we talk about something we use a company or a person as a reference? The answer is simple but complex at the same time: all these companies and all these people are in continuous search to improve the quality and excellence of their products and services, and thus, our lives.

Make a list of what you think that makes people and their companies successful. Make separate lists and see the characteristics and qualities of both, and look for similarities even though you will be talking about people or companies. In doing so, see what calls your attention and start understanding why they have been successful. It is a mix of desire and decision, creativity and innovation; and of course, continuous work - in addition to always have a good work team which makes them excellent.

And after all that, see how each of you, as individuals and professionals, along with your own companies can do to follow the path of Excellence!

TEC: TEEN Entrepreneur College Summit

I am very honored to have been invited to be the Key-Note Speaker on the first ever TEC - Teen Entrepreneur College Summit organized by the Houston Community College @HCCDistrict

High School students form Houston and surroundings areas will be able to learn first hand form real entrepreneurs and college professors on the importance of 'Entrepreneurship' and embark in an entrepreneurial adventure.

In recognition of these high school students and future entrepreneurs, here is a new article to 'Start Early on Entrepreneurship!'
- It's your TIME.

Luis Vicente

Start Early on Entrepreneurship!

Entrepreneurship is about daring, taking chances, not knowing where you are going and yet, taking action.

Entrepreneurship is about movement, using action verbs, about implementing strategies to fulfill your dreams. I say fulfill as you will reach them along the way and then you, the entrepreneur, will be looking for new ways to improve your company, your team, your performance; in the simplest way, to improve yourself.

As a business performance coach I meet regularly with business owners and entrepreneurs alike. And yes, there is a big difference in their definition. While business owners most times manage their companies, entrepreneurs look for ways to innovate, create and constantly improve their current and new ventures. You may agree or disagree with me on this definition, but put some thought into it. Most successful entrepreneurs I have interviewed have mainly one regret, not having started earlier. However, the good thing I tell them is that they have started already.

And the only way you will succeed in life and in business is if you put your heart and soul into making your team and your company, very productive.

This is what entrepreneurs do every single day. They start with a dream and then go working out of their way to see it become a reality.

As the title of this short article suggests, you need to start early.  And then start again and again until you get it right and do it right. Taking the first step gets you going and moves you in a direction. It may not be the right one; you might have to change courses from time to time; so you have to set your mind on your goals. Developing your goals and creating the strategies to implement them is of crucial importance.

Start early. Your idea does not have to be perfect; nor does your plan (and of course you do need a plan). But until you start you will never know what you will need to change, to adapt, to modify. Simply put, start and start early so that you can become the entrepreneur you have in you.

Start early on Entrepreneurship: It will give you a New and Brighter Future!

StarShine Academy: on a world wide Education initiative and the X-Prize

Dear Friends

Last year I had the honor to be invited to speak to the students at Star Shine Academy in Phoenix, AZ. What a group of very valuable kids. Although most live in difficult, negative and poor environments, Star Shine Academy devotes itself to providing them with the best K-12 education.

This year Star Shine has embarked yet in another more challenging project, reaching out to 250 million kids worldwide. They are doing a magnificent effort and if they succeed, they will receive the X-Prize for Global Learning to pursue this amazing goal; but they need our help. They need to raise enough funds to help this project get started.

If you want to find out more about the project and what this amazing prize means, I invite you to please read the link below:

I am sure you will love the project and if possible contribute to its success. Go ahead, share the news and become involved in this worldwide education improvement.

Thanks in adance/Muchas gracias anticipadas,

Luis Vicente

Augustin Hadelich: An inspiring Performance!

I was not ready to see tonight’s concert and was not prepared for the wonderful musical experience I had. And now I must say I was very fortunate to see Augustin Hadelich’s amazing performance of Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2 (the first performance of the concert in 1939 has come to be regarded as one of the great 20th-century violin concertos, according to the LA Philharmonic).

When you attend a Classical Concert or an Opera you prepare yourself in advance. You see the program and learn about the concert; you read the biographies of the composer, the conductor and the concertist; and you buy the tickets in advance. Well, until today, as I decided to attend tonight’s concert by the Houston Symphony Orchestra only 40 minutes before it started.

As I have been travelling these past few months between Caracas and Houston, I have been able to see several performances by the Houston Symphony (@housymphony). Tonight I just simply read that the Orchestra would be playing Mozart and headed downtown Houston; and I was treated to an evening of sound, magic and excitement.

Tonight’s concert conducted by Gilbert Varga, was an incredible performance by the Houston Symphony which started with Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Nights’ Dream and ended with Mozart’s Symphony No. 39. Beautiful, elegant, enchanting and melodic concertos that make you start dreaming as you listen to their first notes.

And then, violinist Augustin Hadelich played Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2. I have to say I had read about his concert at Carnegie Hall in New York in December last year, but as I started to enjoy this very powerful and fast paced concert, I realized I was seeing a very talented musician who commanded the scenario with strong energy and a compelling dynamism.

Very demanding of his 1723 Stradivarius Violin (that at times appeared to be talking to us), he transmitted a level of excellence that seemed beyond us at certain moments and that we very seldom seen today. And Bartok’s very challenging concert was played with ‘beauty’, which was how the Washington Post described Hadelich’s essence of playing. On my way back I read what the Houston Chronicle wrote about his previous performance at Jones Hall which indicated that Hadelich “exerted the kind of excitement that threatens to lift the listener right out of his seat.” And of course, we all got lifted again this time.

As a Business Performance Coach I started asking questions in my head. How do we get this kind of performance from our team members? How do you get that kind of performance in your companies? How do we leave audiences in ‘awe’? How do we get a standing ovation? We don’t if we do not prepare and work to achieve our goals, our purpose and our vision.

This is why we need to constantly generate new ideas, learn new skills, practice for perfection, and continuously train our co-workers and team members, including ourselves. Not an easy task, but if we want to give a level of performance that exceeds our customer’s expectations, we need to prepare, practice, train and develop the abilities and qualities of the individuals that surround us, that work with us and from whom we require the kind of excellent performance level I saw this evening.

Tonight’s concert by the Houston Symphony was incredible; and Augustin Hadelich’s and exquisite and distinguished performance was – simply – inspirational, after which the audience gave a long and deserving standing ovation, with sounds of ‘Bravo’ and ‘Bravssimo’ being heard, while the Orchestra musicians were applauding along (he came back to the delight the audience with a beautiful encore piece by Paganini; greeted of course with his second standing ovation of the evening). One of those concerts and amazing performances you will be able to cherish and remember forever.

Ready to close Q1?

Can you believe we’re nearing the end of the first Quarter of 2015 already?  In today’s “feast or famine” economy, 95% of business owners and managers are behind in their quotas. You heard me right. 95%! And you name the quota: sales, marketing plans, budget, innovation, etc.

Social media has taken over the world of marketing. But the costs of online ad campaigns are soaring through the roof! Then there’s the predicted downturn in the economy that is causing consumers to hold tight to their wallets. Add to that the new burden of minimum wage increases, and business owners have a real problem on their hands.

But I have good news for you. There are proven systems and processes you can put into place today to draw more clients and consumers to your door, ensuring a steady steam of revenue even in today’s unstable market.

As a Business Performance Coach, an internationally motivational speaker and a Best-Selling author, I have helped business owners, Sales and HR representatives just like you in many industries and in different countries, increase their business and revenue in just under six-months, using simple but proven techniques.

The Bill Belichick HR System, by Luis Vicente Garcia

People are still buzzing over the Super Bowl.

From the commercials to Katy Perry to the last play call that cost the Seahawks the game, what a night it was.

And while everyone is talking about the play that Pete Carroll, coach of the Seahawks called, I want to talk about the call that Bill Belichick, coach of the Patriots made.

- Bill is an architect.

- He is smart.

- Cunning.

- Precise.

And it shows with 4 Super Bowl wins in the last 13 years.

That last play was just the final piece in the ultimate chess match.

And Coach Belichick saw it a mile away.

- He knew his opponent.

- He knew the situation.

- He could see into the future.

This is really how you need to manage HR in your organization.

You need to be able to forecast for the future.

You need to know your personnel better than anyone.

You need to understand the challenges coming, the opportunities that present themselves and be ready to make the play call that will help your company succeed.

Today I want to pose a question to you.

What are you doing day-in and day-out to make sure you are ready to make that play call?

How can you to truly be effective in forecasting for the future? You need to be in place to make the game winning play. Not an easy task, I know, but you can all do it.

Just simply, start working on your plan
and be playing at a championship level this season!

To your success,

Luis Vicente Garcia
